THE ADOBELAND PROJECT
THE ADOBELAND PROJECT
You might have found this website via The Lesbian Connection or from seeing our trailer or hearing about it from a friend. We’re glad you came to visit and hope you look around a bit.
We want to extend our gratitude to all the wonderful women who have shared their stories and to those who have been in touch. We are still conducting interviews and collecting photos so it’s not too late to be a part of this historic project.
We are three filmmakers, Luanne Withee, Pat Woelke and Penelope Starr, who are interested in preserving the history and documenting the present state of “women’s land”, specifically Adobeland, west of Tucson, Arizona. Through visits to the land, interviews with a diverse cross-section of residents, former residents and women who have had other ties to Adobeland, we hope to explore intergenerational perspectives on the intersection of lesbian history, feminism and the back-to-the-land movement. Adobe (Joan Pepper), founder and owner of the community will be featured.
Did you ever live at or visit Adobeland? Do you have stories to tell? We’d love to videotape an interview with you. If you’re in Tucson, we’ll set up an appointment to film the interview. If you’re somewhere else, we’ll record our phone conversation.
Do you have photos? Can you email them to us? If you prefer to send them, we know they are precious memories and we promise to take good care of them. We’ll scan them and return them to you quickly.
We are incorporated as a nonprofit and have 501(c)(3) status. Donations are gratefully accepted. See our Donation Page for more information.
